DIGITAL DENTISTRY AND THE BENEFITS OF CAD/CAM
CAD/CAM is revolutionising restorative dentistry and digital dentistry is almost certainly the future. CAD/CAM is bringing a new level of precision and consistency to the production of implants, crowns and bridges. Combined with modern materials that offer enhanced biocompatibility and aesthetics, these techniques promote better patient health, giving them the confidence to smile.
A complete digital solution may be some time away and there will always be the need for the skills of technicians and ceramists in designing and finishing the restoration. However, even today it is possible to take a digital impression send it to a lab, such as ourselves, have the restoration designed digitally, the implant abutment or framework digitally designed and the appliance milled or laser sintered producing a final restoration with the consistency of fit and aesthetics that is very hard to achieve using conventional methods.
Even without a digital impression having a restoration produced via CAD/CAM brings many of the same benefits. A perfect fit is the foundation for all highly aesthetic restorations. CAD/CAM enables high reliability and predictability, precise fitting and customised parts.
On top of the above benefits the materials used to mill or laser sinter the implants, restorations and copings is far more consistent than conventionally cast work and is largely biocompatible. Even the metals used have none of the undesirable trace elements or potential contaminants that can be found in cast metals.
We are so convinced that the future is digital we don’t have one system, we have two! We have the Straumann CARES© and the incise© systems. This allows us to offer the widest possible range of restorations and materials. By having the two systems we are able to provide CAD/CAM designed implant restorations based on Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Camlog, Biomet 3i and other systems. We can also provide restorations using various materials including Zirconia, Chrome, Titanium, IPS E.Max®, IPS Empress®, 3M™ ESPE™ LAVA™ Ultimate Restorative, VITA Mark II and VITA TriLuxe and temporary materials Polyamide and Polycon.
Digital dentistry and CAD/CAM allows us to provide consistently high reliability and predictability, precise fitting and customised restorations reducing wasted surgery time with chair side adjustments and minimising re-makes, therefore reducing surgery overheads.
The future is digital and the future is available now and available for all standards of work. If you would like further information or would like to discuss what CAD/CAM can offer you and your patients please let us know.
